want to have a huge poker game, winner gets buy in for WSOP. Is it illegal if there is no money paid 4winner?
I know churches do this and don’t have a license, but they don’t give cash prizes, they give donated items. Can i give away a seat at the WSOP (worth 10,000) and it be the same?

I own a restaurant and want to do this as a promotion.

Are poker tournaments legal in California?

gambling poker

A bunch of my friends and I were thinking of hosting a poker tournament with a PS3 for the winner. We were going to charge a buy in and give away a % of the winnings to the winner and top players. Is this legal or not (for California)?

Originally I was thinking it was because people enter other tournaments, like sports or video games, where there is an entrance fee, and the winner takes a % of the pot. This would be no different, but poker is a gambling game.

Anyways, I don’t want to do anything illegal so hopefully someone knows the answer. I was planning on opening it up to the public because most of my friends don’t play poker as far as I know.

How could i have a casino night without braking the law in the UK?

Our Club (private members) wants to hold a casino night to raise money for a local charity. we have no gambling license, so how could we do it without breaking the law and still raise funds?
I’ve heard of pontins doing a fun casino in their pub (over 18’s only) and you were given “play” money, then at the end you used your “play” winnings to buy items at this auction. We want to do our night the same but charge an entrance fee, with the possibility of “buying” extra money.

Why is Kentucky against Poker but allow horse race betting?

They say that playing poker is gambling. That there is too much chance in it.
Well, why in the heck do they allow horse betting? Seems you have 0% chance to affect the outcome. Seems 100% chance.
At least Poker does have some skill, otherwise how can someone win tournaments more than 1 time.
I am confused by why they allow one and not the other?
Thanks for any clarification you all can provide.

Where can you report illegal gambling video poker machines?

I live in NC. There are many, many illegal video poker machines in some areas. Where can a person report this information to. I contacted the authorties about 6 months ago and nobody returned my call.
My daughter applied for a job at this establishment. She was not told until she got hired that this was also part of her job was to tend to the “illegal” payout of these machines which are stuck in a closet in the back of the store. She feels that she is also guilty by association. Otherwise I could care less. Plus as hard as jobs are to come by these days.. she needs to work, however probably not at an establishment such as this.

What gambling problems does your country have?

I live in NZ. A few years ago the only gambling here was horse racing using the totalisator, not private bookmakers, a state lottery called Lucky Kiwis, and of course private gambling like poker games. It wasn’t a serious social problem back then. Now, gambling has been made easier. We’ve now got casinos, online gambling, scratch-and-win tickets, which you buy, scratch and if you’re lucky, get a prize. and what we call pokie machines. In Britain they call them one-armed bandits. It’s easier to lose money fast gambling than with any other vice, especially if it doesn’t require any skill. Horse racing required skill and knowledge. Now pokies are a major problem here. Some of the profits are taxed and given to charities. But the social problems they cause cost us far more than they pay back. I want to write a story about it. Please tell me about your country’s experience with different forms of gambling.
Gambling is in NZ a way to take money from the poor to give to the rich. I want material for a story condemning our over-liberal gambling laws. Please help.

I realize the matters of crimes dealing with casinoes and gambling, but there are other reasons why gambling hurts a community and the financials to a community. Please do not give me a yes or no answer, but give me an open-ended question.
