if I use the sony ericsson pc suite will it make my music a smaller folder?

My mate said it makes the file a smaller size but keepes the song sounding great. I have a Sony Ericsson W810i. If this is true will it be best for me to delete all my music on my phone and put it back on there using this software? At the moment i drag and drop music onto the phone.
